When people ask, what does Mid-Mountain do, the general answer is that our company manufactures a very broad range of standard and custom products for use as thermal insulation barriers and environmental protection products. The typical response for those not working in an industry we serve is the well known head tilt with a nod, and an “Oh…”.
Thermal Insulation Barriers and Environmental Protection Products. What products fall in these categories? For Mid-Mountain, that answer can encompass a myriad of things, as we are continually developing new products to address the applications requirements of our customers.
In a broad sense, the products we provide include:
ARMATEX® Coated Fabrics and Textiles
THERMOPAK® Fabricated Seals, Curtains and Blanket
HYTEX® High Temperature Resistant Textiles such as ropes, tapes, sleevings and fabrics
SILTEX® Silica Fabrics and Silica Textiles
THERMOSEAL® High Temperature Moldables, Cements, and Adhesives
But what exactly are those products? How, where, and why are they used, and how do you know which one is right for your application? What product is right for you can be a tough question, and is largely based on your application, and the problem you are trying to solve. And that is what we are here for, to help you solve your problem.
Coated Fabrics and Textiles – We have been coating fabrics for the majority of our 40 years in business, and we primarily coat fiberglass with silicone. Our ARMATEX® SF Silicone Coated Fabrics are typically used in insulation blankets and pads for the insulation industry, for welding curtains and blankets in any industry where welding takes place, as insulation for the power generation industry, for cargo covers on airplanes, on aircraft jetway bridges, and the list goes on. And though our SF coated fabrics are our main product, our coating capabilities reach far beyond one type of base fabric and one coating.
Over the years we have coated a wide variety of substrates, with a wide variety of coatings. For example, we coat a very heavy weight fiberglass fabric with a mineral coating and a silicone coating, which is our SQF product line. A fabric like this is excellent for use in applications that require high temperature resistance, abrasion resistance, and durability in extreme conditions. It can also be used as a gasket seal in applications where non-permeability comes into play. We can coat aramid fabrics, such as Kevlar and Nomex, for applications that require a high strength base fabric. We can coat with PTFE, for applications that require a chemical resistant, durable coated fabric.
We can coat textiles as well, including round and square braided ropes, tapes and tadpole gaskets. Coated textiles are often use in sealing applications for door seals, furnace seals, and oven seals. Coated ropes and tadpole gaskets are often used for sealing in gas fireplaces, and silicone coated rounds and square braided ropes are often used as seals in Primary Aluminum smelters, where the sealing applications require a product that can survive in extreme environments.
We make every effort to be an environmentally conscious company, and one that takes the health of the employees seriously. Therefore, we do not coat with solvents, and we use a low VOC coating for our black textiles. If you need a high-temperature resistant coated fabric or textile, Mid-Mountain has your solution.
Fabricated Seals, Curtains and Blankets – Fabricating specialty parts has been a part of Mid-Mountain since the company was formed. From a simple die cut gasket to aerospace engine shields to protective robot covers, we have the capability to engineer and fabricate products to our customers’ specifications. One of the things that makes Mid-Mountain unique is our vertical integration. We manufacture the textiles and coat the fabrics that are used in our fabricated products, which results in a higher quality product for our customers, along with a lower price and a shorter lead time. In addition, we have an incredibly experienced team in our fabrication department, and they take great pride in what they do.
We can die cut gaskets, and cut and sew virtually any high-temperature material. For years we have been manufacturing spark blankets for use in rail grinding, which serve to keep sparks contained while grinding the rails. We manufacture rope rings, which are used to cast aluminum wheels. We manufacture Tray Pads, which are used to protect aluminum coils, slab and sheet from surface damage during cooling, plant transfer, annealing operations, and the handling and storage process. We manufacture expansion joints, and robot covers. In 2010, in partnership with one of our customers, we manufactured the cover of the Hydro-Fireboom, which was used for the offshore cleanup of oil in the DeepWater Horizon Oil spill.
